Abstract: Since 2003, the author observed 293 depression in-patients above moderate degree along with the staffs from the psychological department, Nanjing Brain Hospital. Among 293 cases, 173 were treated with combined acupuncture and medication and 120 cases were treated wigh 5-HT selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) alone. After discharging from the hospital, some patients were treated in the outpatient department. The clinical practice showed that acupuncture worked well on depression.
